How to apply for ordination

The path to credentials with IMI is straightforward and personal. Here is what's required, which form fits your situation, and exactly where to send it.

Step one

Meet the requirements

IMI ordination is a real credential, and the requirements protect its integrity — for you and for the roughly 800 ministers who already carry it. Every candidate must:

  1. Pass a test

    Every candidate completes an examination as part of the ordination process.

  2. Be active in ministry

    Ordination recognizes work you are already doing — preaching, teaching, leading, serving.

  3. Currently living a holy lifestyle

    Candidates must be walking out their faith with integrity today, not just in the past.

  4. Two professional recommendations

    People who know your ministry complete reference evaluations on your behalf.

  5. A modest fee

    A small application fee covers processing and credentials.

Choose the right form

Whether you are brand new to credentials, already ordained elsewhere, or renewing for another year, there is a form for your situation:

New Ordination Application

For candidates seeking ordination through IMI for the first time.

Reference Evaluation Form

Completed by each of your two professional references.

Affiliate Application

For ministers already ordained elsewhere who want to affiliate with IMI.

Transfer Application

For ministers transferring their credentials to IMI from another organization.

Annual Renewal Letter

Ordained IMI ministers renew their credentials each year.
