IMI was founded in the late 1980s for exactly this: evangelism and prophetic ministry. Tom preaches the powerful gospel of who Jesus is and what He did for mankind, and he ministers prophetically over individuals — across three decades, IMI counts more than 500,000 prophetic prayers given. It is the reason he is known as the "Blue Collar Prophet": prophetic ministry without pretense, for ordinary people.

After the 2008 financial crisis, IMI rebuilt itself around a radical idea: ministries should own income-generating farms and businesses so children's lives never depend on next month's donations. Tom teaches what he has built — theCity of Refuge model— and mentors entrepreneurs directly.
